Do Del Mar windows all need the same cleaning schedule?

No. Homes near the Village and Beach Colony take salt spray off the ocean, which films exterior glass quickly and calls for a shorter cleaning interval. Homes up in Del Mar Heights and around Crest Canyon deal mostly with dust, so the interval stretches and follows the seasons.

We clean in Del Mar often, and the first thing we look at on a quote is which side of the hill the house sits on.

What salt does to glass near the Village and Beach Colony

Salt spray lands on the exterior pane and leaves a thin film. You often cannot see it until the afternoon sun hits the glass from a low angle.

That film builds faster than it does inland. It is the reason coastal homes need a shorter cleaning interval.

Two-storey homes down here often have upper glass over landscaped, sloped side yards. We work those from the ground with poles rather than putting a ladder in the planting beds. It is slower. It is also safer.

What changes up in Del Mar Heights and around Crest Canyon?

Dust drives the soiling here, not salt. It settles in seasonal waves, so the interval usually stretches.

Screens matter more than people expect. A screen holds a layer of dust that lands on freshly cleaned glass the first time the wind blows. So we do screens and glass in the same visit.

How do we clean the exterior glass?

We use deionized water and water-fed brushes. The brushes lift the film off the pane.

Deionized water carries nothing dissolved in it, so it dries without mineral spots. That means no squeegee pass on exterior glass.

Interior panes are hand washed, with microfiber on the frames and sills. Tracks are a separate job, because the grit that collects in them is what scratches glass later. You can read more on our window track cleaning page.

What about large picture windows?

Del Mar properties frequently have big fixed panes, and interior access has to be arranged with the homeowner. We would rather set that up at the quote than discover it on the day.

Matthew and Tanner quote and clean every job themselves, and we check each pane before we call a job done. See our Del Mar window cleaning page for more.
