What's Actually Sitting in a Window Track

Grit sitting in a track doesn't just look bad. Every time the sash slides over it, that grit acts like sandpaper against the bottom edge of the glass and the vinyl or aluminum channel underneath it. Over a year or two, a track nobody ever cleans can leave faint scratch lines you only notice when the sun hits the glass at a low angle.

How Do I Clean Sliding Window Tracks Myself?
- Vacuum the track first with a narrow attachment to pull out loose debris before anything gets wet.
- Work a stiff, narrow brush into the corners, where dead insects and compacted dust build up the fastest.
- Wipe the channel with a damp microfiber cloth, then dry it so standing water doesn't sit against the frame.
- Check the weep holes at the bottom of the track. If they're packed with dirt, water has nowhere to drain.
