What is the difference between window washing and window cleaning?
Window washing and window cleaning mean the same job to most San Diego homeowners. The difference shows up in method: washing usually means a wet pass with a squeegee, while cleaning covers glass, frames, sills, tracks, and screens. Ask what a quote includes rather than what it is called.
Nobody in the trade argues much about the word. Customers use both, and so do we.
What matters is the list of tasks behind the name. We have walked into homes where a previous visit only touched the glass, and the tracks under the panes were packed with grit.
How do the two terms usually compare?

That table is a generalization, not a rule. Some crews do everything under the name washing.
Why do tracks and screens change the result?
Tracks collect the grit that later scratches glass. That is why we sell track detailing as its own service instead of folding it into a wash.
Screens hold a layer of dust too. The first breeze after a visit lifts it off the screen and puts it back on freshly cleaned glass, so we do screens and glass in the same visit.
Does the neighborhood change the job?
It does. In Pacific Beach and Point Loma, salt spray films the exterior pane faster than inland glass, so the interval is shorter.
Out in Poway, Scripps Ranch, and 4S Ranch, the trouble is dust and hard-water sprinkler overspray. That leaves mineral spotting low on the pane, and it is the reason we use deionized water with water-fed brushes on exteriors. It dries without leaving spots, so no squeegee pass is needed on the outside.
On two-storey coastal homes with sloped, planted lots, we work from the ground with poles instead of setting a ladder in the landscaping. It is slower. It is also safer for the house and the yard.
What should you ask before booking?

- Are frames and sills wiped, or only the glass?
- Are tracks and screens part of the visit or separate?
- Who will actually be on the ladder or the pole?
